This blog will follow the progress of "Salty", a 1965 Honda C110 that is being built into a land speed record setting machine. We hope. This is a purely amateur affair, run out of a two-car garage (that shares space with eight other small bikes and a Formula Vee race car) and should prove entertaining to both Land Speed Veterans – who will no doubt spot numerous mistakes along the way – and Tiddler enthusiasts dreaming of double digit speeds.
The race team will consist of Chief Mechanic and Rider Chris Hartman, who will be undertaking his first LSR bike build, and be a complete novice to the ways of LSR event organization. This should be fun. Chris is very lucky to be teamed up with Crew Chief Susan Hartman, who will have the all important task of listening to countless hours of small motorbike technical talk over the next 12 months (while attempting to look interested) and keeping the fridge full of ice cold beer. Her most important task, however, will be keeping the Chief Mechanic/Rider from puking his guts out on the start line of his first time down the salt. Nerves of steel he is not.
